Straw Poll Results

The Watertown Republican Town Committee would like to thank all those who worked so hard to make the Faire on the Square a success once again this year. We’d also like to thank all those who stopped by our tables to learn about our candidates, just talk, or even argue politics in the great American tradition.

I’m sure I can speak for the Greater Waltham Tea Party who joined us in saying that Watertown residents are civic minded and not afraid to engage in the arena of ideas. That is a very healthy thing. And of course, the day would not have been nearly as fun with our friendly jousts with the various Democrat candidates and the members of the Democrat Town Committee. It was all in good fun. I left the event with a lot respect for our political opponents as people, even if they are misguided in their politics.

Before I announce the results of or Presidential straw poll, I want to mention both our Republican Candidates for Congress Dr. Gerry Dembrowski and Jeff Semon. Both men were at out table most of the day talking to the taxpayers about their concerns. Finally, I have to mention an inspiring young man named Frankie Lombardo. Frankie is 17, a student at Belmont High School, and a Ron Paul supporter. He was out there working the crowd and pressing the flesh right next to our Congressional candidates. It was a joy to listen to this articulate, well-informed young man express his love for country and his desire to preserve our Constitution. We could all learn a few lessons from Frankie.

Now to our straw poll results:
Mitt Romney 44%
Ron Paul 14%
Rick Perry 10%
Michelle Bachman 8%
John Hunstman 6%
Rick Santorum 4%
Herman Cain 2%
Newt Gingrich 2%
Charles “Buddy” Roemer 2%
Gary Johnson 1%
Thaddeus McCotter 1%

And 6% of the votes were write-in candidates.
Among the write in votes there were some rather interesting names. Two people voted for yours truly John DiMascio ---- Let me be clear I will no seek, nor shall I accept the nomination of my party. And one person voted for Soviet Suzie Falkoff.

Again thanks to everyone who was remotely involved. It was a great day for Watertown. We look forward to doing again.
